SongLines is a series of radio programs premised on the questions, "What's your favourite song and why is that?" When les siemieniuk conceived of this series in 1996, I was sceptical. I wasn't sure that there was going to be enough variety in the things that people would say about their favourite songs to make 6 programs. By the time we had finished recording that first season I was a believer. I was now convinced that we couldn't possibly cover all of this in 6 programs. What struck me the most was just how passionate people were about their favourite songs.

Recorded at the Calgary, Edmonton and Winnipeg Folk Festivals Songlines is a show about songs, not about singer songwriters. Two full six part series are complete and have been broadcast on CBC and CKUA radio networks. The recordings for the third season took place in 2000 at Folk Fests across Western Canada. We talked to Linda Tillery, Dar Williams and Eric Bibb to name but a few. Look for another very interesting series of Songlines. We'll let you know when the new programs will air.

Home is obviously more than where you hang your hat.

Like Songlines, A Sense of Place began with a question or two. Where are you from and why do you live where you do. We then asked performers to play us a song about place; their place, a place they would like to be, a place where they wish they were.

A Sense of Place is hosted by James Keelaghan and produced by James Keelaghan and Les Siemieniuk.

A Sense of Place was first broadcast on the CKUA Radio Network over the summer (July/August 2000) and re-broadcast in November/December 2000.
